I took some shots of the new cast of Buddy Holly yesterday and was taken back to when I first saw the show about ....years (I am not going to give away my age) ago when I was in Std 7 or Grade 9 as they call it now.

Although I grew up wit Rock & Roll and Elvis (my parents loved him) , this show opened up a whole new world of singers and their music to me- like Buddy with "That'll Be The Day", The Big Bopper with "Chantilly Lace" and Ritchie Valens with "La Bamba". My dad loved "Chantilly Lace" and would often sing the song when he wanted to be funny.

But Buddy's story has always been a tragic one as he died in a plane crash at such a young age (all 3 singers were still young), but their music definitely touched my life in a very special way.

Here are a few of yesterday's pics of the new cast ...It was their first fitting session, so there aren't any costumes or props yet. At one stage the actors and musicians took out their instruments and started singing-was quite fun-think it will be a great show and I will definitely go and watch it.

Ps: Did you know that Holly's real name was actually Holley? The change in spelling came about due to an error in a contract he was asked to sign and he did not see the mistake in time. The new spelling was then adopted for his professional career.

And on that topic-apparently Google was also supposed to be "Googol" or something, and was changed to "Google" after a spelling error on a check. I think the developers were afraid to asked for a correction in fear of loosing the funding...but I like the names Holly and Google better anyway!

Boy you learn interesting things on the net... (when you are supposed to edit), but "the day the music died" in the song "American Pie" refers to the plane crash. Go and have a look at the meaning of the words-quite interesting:

SANDTON

Ek het laas week 'n shoot vir 'n tydskrif gedoen en moes features skiet van Sandton.

Alhoewel dit vrek koud was tussen al die hoe geboue-was dit 'n belewenis. Dit is verstommend om te sien hoeveel geld nog in sekere areas van ons land is en hoeveel pakkies die mense in Sandton-square ronddra...nie net toeriste wat nog bietjie agterbly en kuier na die sokker nie, maar Suid-Afrikaners ook. Ek kon nie help om die vroue met hul mooi boots, designer outfits en jasse te beny nie, en het maar bietjie selfbewus gevoel in my denim en (fake) All Stars...maar nietemin is dit exciting om al die vooruitgang te sien. Ek het ook my eerste rit op die Gautrein gehad en sien uit na die dag wat ek my kar hier by Hatfield/Jhb CBD (afhangende waar ek myself dan bevind) te los en op die trein te spring oppad na 'n shoot...

I took some photos of Jeanie and Lindi today in my home studio .

Phew-2 Year olds can be quite challenging to photograph! But once you get the shot it is very rewarding.

I love photographing children, because they are so natural and uninhibited and open to the camera, but I must admit that it is quite challenging. Jeanie for instance loves her pink dress so much that she did not want to pose in any of the other dresses her mom packed in for her. But I just always say( well actually it is something I decided today)-that a smile is worth much more than a change in wardrobe...
